Since Alex moved his famous Mee Goreng stall from Restoran Pom Pom to Restoran Siong Pin (located on Jalan SS 3/31, 47300 PJ), he has added Char Kuey Teow to his menu as well. A long time ago before Alex did Mee Goreng, he was actually frying Char Kuey Teow.
So since this was a new CKT place, I had to try it out. Alex has now got hired help and he has this mainland Chinese girl helping him to do the CKT. Initially, I was a bit worried that she might not be able to get it right but Alex seemed to trust her, so I thought "OKlah, I'll give this a shot"
As usual, I asked for my extra chili and "sang ham" (which means raw cockles - they don't fry the cockles but the cockles are cooked by the heat of the kuey teow) It's absolutely unhealthy, so I have been told, but hey it's my taste buds and that's how I like it.
Did this CKT have the important stuff as well? Initially there was no lard, no banana leaf, no lap cheong but that was because Alex said that the health conscious people who order CKT don't want lard in their CKT. HELLLLLO!!!!!!!! What's a few pieces of lard going to do to you when you are already having kuey teow fried in lots of oil.
Enough of that ranting, the prawns and cockles were fresh, so I was quite happy with that. And the taste was actually quite good. Oh, if you are serious enough about your CKT, you can bring your own lard & lap cheong and Alex will custom fry your CKT for you. I am adding 5% to the score for that bit of customer personalization.
Recently, I went again after he had brought in some lard for me - I can tell you there is a distinct difference in the taste.
