It was time for dinner and we decided that we would go to Kuah again. Taking the approach of looking out for a place that seemed happenning which means it doesn't look like the only customers the establishment has are flies. So the approach was to drive around looking for a place that seemed busy.
We found our candidate, Restoran Makanan Laut Yong Leong, which by my earlier definition, was the only happenning seafood restaurant in Kuah that night. Every single table was filled so it suggested that this place can't be bad. And it wasn't filled by tourist buses either. Incidentally Yong Leong is across the road from Restoran San, where we had lunch earlier in the day.
We had to wait almost half an hour for our food to arrive and we started with a lotus root (ling ngau) soup, which was good. It was good enough to get my son to actually finish a whole plate of rice by adding the soup to his rice. That's not an easy feat.
We then moved on to a japanese bean curd (tow foo). The bean curd had salted fish in it which made it taste quite good. I only wish that they had been more generous with the salted fish. Perhaps if they had been as generous as Bamboo Inn, then this could have been a winner. As it is, it was only good.
The sweet & sour prawns was decent. The prawns had been semi de-shelled, which in my book is always a good thing. I am too lazy to peel through prawn shells usually. But nothing in it made it memorable.
The Hakka style yam and fried pork (woo tau kow yuk) was decent.
Woo Tau - Yam, Kow Yuk - Fried Pork.
The chili crab's sauce was OK but the crab hardly had any meat in it, which was really a deal killer. However the sauce was so good that we wished that they had "man tou" for us to dip it with.
The Sambal Chicken was quite bland and I had to use loads of sambal belacan to embellish the taste. Avoid this dish here.
At RM111 for all of us, it certainly wasn't cheap and most definitely not memorable. At that price I would be expecting more than just a decent meal.
