Continuing on the review of food places in Langkawi, here's the best place we went to during our overly short stay there. 3 days is not enough. If you ever go there, do plan to stay longer.
After our rather unsatisfying dinner from the 1st night, we decided that we had to find a place to make up for it. We decided to go to Pantai Cenang this time which seemed more happenning than Kuah. After doing our rounds, we decided to stop at Palm View Seafood Restaurant. This is not far from the place where we had the good nasi lemak and excellent roti canai.
We started with a Thai style fried garoupa. The basic sweet and sour Thai sauce but a really fresh fish. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Then came the Butter Lobster which together with the fish were the clear winners of the night. The lobster meat was fried with egg white & butter. Excellent! Yeah, you can say that lobster meat should best be taken boiled or grilled and that would be usually how I would have it but this was an interesting change. I liked it very much.
And with a bottle of Corona beer at just RM6, it was a really nice complement.
The Golden Spicy (Kam Heong) crab - hmmm - tasted good though a tad
bit too salty but I don't know whether it's a malaise that afflicts
Langkawi that all the crabs that they have are small but despite the
assurances of the proprietor that their crabs had meat in it, that was
not the case.
The sambal kangkung, though a simple dish, was very good. The sambal was done to the point of perfection. Maybe it's because of the chilis that they have here but anything to do with sambal on the island seems to be good.
We also had an Oyster omelette which was quite unsatisfying. The oysters were too powdery and they didn't provide us with the right chili sauce. They gave us a Thai chili sauce to go with the oyster omelette. That's a cardinal sin. Errmm that's not a reference to the recently departed Cardinal of the same name.
The loser of the night, yes there was a loser to spoil the nigh, was the mixed vegetable soup. It tasted almost like salted water. Don't touch it!
Plam View Seafood Restaurant is located at 1584, Pantai Cenang, 07000 Langkawi. The phone number is 04-955 9008.
