My friend, GL, had been complaining how I have not covered wantan mee on waisikkai.com. Well it's because it's not among something that I crave for. Maybe it's because when I was younger, it was about the only thing I would eat and now I think I may have had more than my fair share of it already. But anyway, I thought, if this site is to be a definitive site for Malaysian food, then it needed to cover wantan mee as well. GL had told me that there was this wantan mee in KL that was streets ahead of the rest. He claimed that this place served the absolute best wantan mee in Kuala Lumpur. No others come close, according to GL. With such a glowing recommendation, I had to try this place out. However, this wantan mee stall on Jalan Sahabat (off Tengkat Tong Shin & diagonally opposite the Allson Genesis Hotel) only opens from 10 pm at night and operates till the wee hours of the morning. So it was a supper session. Ahh, the things I do for the love of reviewing food. I had the wantan mee and I certainly can't say it's the best wantan mee I have ever had. GL - you are wrong - there are better ones - I just can't tell you where they are yet - but if this is the best wantan mee in KL, then I think it's a very sorry state for food in KL. The noodle was OK - not exceptional. The "kon low" sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking - maybe that's why GL liked it but I didn't. The wantan, nothing exceptional, in fact the taste was lacking. The "sui kow" was big and juicy - not bad but again not the best I have had. The chicken feet had the right texture but didn't really taste good. And to top it all, we had to wait more than half an hour to get two plates of wantan mee. If it was great food, I wouldn't mind as much but the food was nothing exceptional. Sorry but this place gets the thumbs down from me. Wantan Mee Stall Jalan Sahabat (off Tengkat Tong Shin) 50200 Kuala Lumpur
