Like the wantan mee stall at Jalan Sahabat, I was told about this hokkien char shop on Jalan Maharajalela by two friends, WC & NCT. WC & NCT speaks quite passionately about food so I thought since two persons vouched for this place, it can't be that bad. OK, you may be wiser than me on that count but guess what? They were both wrong.

The hokkien char while evenly fried (which means the intensity of the fire was hot enough) lacked a certain something that separates the men from the boys, the greats from the pretenders, the champions from the also-rans. That certain something in hokkien char is LARD!

Any hokkien char that does not have lard is handicapped to begin with. It's not the complete picture. It's like wanting to know what bacon tastes like but only having had beef bacon as a reference. It's just not on. Beef bacon might as well be Facon.

Thumbs down from me, I certainly won't travel for this, but if you are in town and just need something to munch and you are not too fussy about your hokkien char or if you are kidding yourself that hokkien char without lard is a lot healthier, I suppose you could give this a try.
