Nasi Lemak at The Original Kayu |

With a large signboard proclaiming that it's The Original Kayu Nasi Kandar store, Kayu wants others to know that it's the real thing. Except that colloquailly "Kayu" means someone who's really dumb, wooden - a blockhead. But that has not stopped Kayu from expanding Penang to PeeJay to Australia as well.
I was craving for some nasi lemak after practically a whole week of Chinese New Year goodies. I guess I was not the only one as there were lots of Chinese patrons at Kayu as well. In fact there were more Chinese patrons than Indians or Malays.
The rice in the nasi lemak was indeed quite lemak. So good that it was something I could have eaten by itself. The sambal was the spicy soury type, which I prefer. The Ikan bilis however was dreadful, it was not crispy or tasty at all. There was no egg (boiled or fried) in my nasi lemak until I asked for it. The fried chicken was cold and not very crispy though it did taste quite good. And at RM6.00, it's not cheap at all.
The teh o ais (iced tea) was a bit bitter. Yuck.
