Dim Sum at Imbi Palace, Kuala Lumpur E-mail

Imbi Palace is located where the old Tai Thong used to be and following the tradition of good food served on those premises, Imbi Palace does not disappoint.

Sometimes it's the small things that make dining at a place enjoyable and their appetizers are certainly one of those things. It's a spicy ikan bilis which I have not found anywhere else, rather than the ubiquitous nuts or crackers served at most other places.

The "siew yuk"  (roast  pork)  here is one of the best in town. The skin is super crispy and the meat is warm and firm. And the best part is that they serve it with mustard. I think Mr Ho's is the only other place that does that.

The "har kow" (prawn dumpling is definitely the best in Kuala Lumpur. The skin is translucent. It's not sticky nor does it break when you pick up the dumpling. The texture of the skin is smooth (very defnitely not powdery) when you bite into it. And as you bite through the skin you can taste the freshness of the prawn in your mouth even before biting into the prawn. The freshness of the prawn is simply awesome - perhaps they cook it live, that's the way to maintain maximum freshness.

The fish ball while very springy didn't really taste that good. In fact, it tasted a bit fishy.

The Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun was not that great either. The "cheong fun" was not quite smooth enough, so it didn't glide down the throat. But once again, the very fresh prawn in the "cheong fun" saved the day.

The flatware here tends to be chipped so if you are particular about that, it might bother you. But then again, Imbi Palace doesn't make itself out to be a fine dining institution, so for me - it's fine. But there's something that every dining establishment should emulate - their toilets are clean and the best part is that it even has a dedicated air-condition unit to cool the toilet. Awesome!
