SS 2 is the hotbed for Hong Kong style restaurant/cafes in Petaling Jaya. One of the latest to open is the One Noodle House. The place was packed when we got there on a weekday. You'll need to be proactive to get yourself seated. The captain will not come to you to take your queue number so you'll have to go to him to do it.
Eventhough they have two floors, they only opened one floor the nights we were there. I think it's their plan to make the place look very busy, so people can see there's a queue waiting to get in. Plus it probably reduces their operational cost by not having to switch on the air-con and lights upstairs.
15 minutes later, we finally got our table.
The walls of the restaurant put up the history of 'char chan tangs' and how they started in Hong Kong back in 1946, so that should keep you occuppied while waiting for the food to arrive - but only if you read Chinese.
They seem to have a lot of beef dishes, from noodles to congee to rice. Chinese tea is RM2 a glass and you get refills but I didn't like the tea. I would recommend that you give the red bean ice blend a try instead.
The Shanghai steamed dumpling was good except it did not have wine in it. The skin did not break the moment I picked it up.
The chef's
special "lai mien" was very good with seafood & pork in it. The pork
was very tender and there was also an added flavour from diced fried squid
in the soup. However the portion was very small eventhough the bowl
that they use to serve is very big.
We noted that the service here was quite fast once you are seated.
