Are Korean restaurants the next wave after Hong Kong restaurants? Seems to be the case as they seem to be sprouting up in suburban areas like PJ's Section 14 & Puchong's Bandar Puteri. Simply decorated, the Korean BBQ restaurant also known as Dae Jang Gum is designed for BBQ with a suction fan placed overhead the BBQ pit. The Korean family that owns this place also has another outlet in Taman Putra Sulaiman, Ampang.
We started with a Bulgogi which is a sweetened beef dish and while I usually don't like sweet meat, I quite enjoyed the Bulgogi. The sweet complementing very well with the savoury.
The pork belly slices for the BBQ was somewhat thick and the meat just didn't taste very good. Like the slices of meat the Korean Seafood Pancake was also a bit
thick. I was suppose this was due to the largely chinese community that
they are catering to and value for money is important to the chinese.
The Kim Chi Soup was the winner of the night. The soup
had kim chi, glass noodle, tofu, pork and a korean fishcake which is actually not
made out of fish in it. The soup was very tasty. The oxtail soup with dumpling has no oxtail in it. I thought this soup was rather plain.
Get here early to get a place. By 7:45 pm, the place is packed.
According to my daughter, the toilet is clean but hot & small. Squat toilet only.
Dinner for 5 came up to RM152.50. Not exactly cheap but I guess this is something that you only do once in awhile.
