My wife's aunt decided to round up the whole family for a food trip to Seri Kembangan, where my wife's uncle has been regularly bringing his travel entourage for dinners. My wife's uncle is quite a food connoiseur and when he says the food is good, I don't doubt it. Getting there is not really that hard. All you need to do is drive into the Seri Kembangan new village. Head towards Jalan Sekolah (which is the right turn at the third traffic light after South City Plaza) Once you reach the school (it's on the left) drive along it until you reach a junction. Turn left at the junction and you will arrive at Fook Hin. We arrived there later than the rest of the family but it was perfect timing really. Just as we were seated the food arrived. It was only 7:30 pm but the place was already packed. I wouldn't say parking is ample but the parking attendants will help you direct where to park. Let's just say parking is not that bad.
Their famous dishes are the rice cooked in a seafood soup and their famous steamed haruan. Needless to say we had those. The seafood soup was really tasty and my 4 year old son who places a great deal of importance on having a soup with his meal loved this dish and he had several bowl of rice. If you have been a frequent reader of this site, you know I don't care much for fish unless it's very good.Well, I am happy to tell you that I will be coming back for the fish. It's that good. There are three sets of skill involved in preparing a haruan. First, deboning it takes some skill and that's sometimes the head chef here does very well. The haruan is practically free of bone. I don't like fish bones and that is one of the reasons why I don't like fish. Second, if a fresh water fish is not well prepared it sometimes tends to have a muddy taste to it. Certainly not the case here as the correct amount of ginger is used to mask that offensive taste. Third is in cooking the fish. Steaming a fish is hard enough, as you cannot undercook it or overcook it but what they do here is they actually fry it first so that the skin is slightly crispy and then it's steamed. What was served to us was one of the best fish I have had. Their tau foo was actually quite good as well and it was certainly better than the same tau foo dish I had at Noble House the night before. We also had a Japansese Bamboo Clam, Pork Rib, Vegetable, Fried Squid, Two Haruans per table and a Yam Basket. All this (there were 20 people) came up to about RM400.
